Exemption from the integration duty

An automatic exemption means the integration duty no longer applies to you, for example because of a Dutch diploma. A granted exemption you apply for actively, for example because of a medical limitation that makes integrating unfeasible.

Automatic exemption: no duty by default

You can be automatically exempt from the integration duty, for example if you:

Granted exemption: apply with DUO

You can apply for a granted exemption if a psychological, intellectual, or physical limitation demonstrably prevents you from integrating, even via the Z-route. DUO assesses your application, often with a medical statement.

You apply for both automatic and granted exemption with DUO. Also discuss your situation with your municipality, which can help you with the right supporting documents.
