These four language parts test your Dutch language skills at the level set out in your Plan Inburgering en Participatie (PIP) — usually A2 or B1.
KNM — Knowledge of Dutch Society
KNM is a computer-based exam of about 45 minutes with questions on themes such as housing, work and income, health, education and Dutch government. KNM is mandatory in every learning route.
ONA, MAP and PVT
The participation component is called ONA (under the older law) or MAP (under Wi2021), supplemented by the PVT (practical statement/test). Here you show what you have done to take part in Dutch society, for example through work, volunteering or an internship. This part runs via your municipality.
Costs
As an indication, the exam (all five parts together) costs around €250; KNM or ONA alone cost a few tens of euros. Asylum status holders often get the first attempts covered; other migrants can apply for a loan from DUO.
